Thinking of myself as a solution-oriented mom, I came up with a plan to combat the issue of dirty laundry left on the bathroom floor.
Yes, it's all about signage!
You might remember my post back in November where I was complaining whining, ranting telling you about how my two young boys habitually leave their clothes on the bathroom floor after they shower.
I was so upset, I contemplated writing a country western song about it but alas, I am more talented at signage than song writing so I came up with a different idea.
I remember stating in that post that I really needed to put a laundry basket IN the bathroom so the kids could just dump their clothes as soon as they took them off. But, this is a very small bathroom and there simply isn't room for a laundry basket in there.
So, I came up with the next best solution (I thought) and put two laundry baskets right outside the bathroom door!
I even made a sign with BIG letters so they couldn't miss it as they walked out of the bathroom. (Although looking at the pictures I think perhaps I should lower the sign to their eye level.)
I even put some temporary signs inside their closets to help them remember...
And yet, with all of my clever planning... I still find my self saying (every single night)...
"Get your dirty clothes off the floor!!!!!"
This picture sort of reminds me of some irony photos someone sent to me recently...
And so, my solution has been a failure. But someone pointed out to me that I should be happy that my two boys take showers at all! So what if they leave their (very dirty) clothes on the floor...at least their bodies will be clean. (Although sometimes they jump in and jump out of the shower so fast, I doubt the water could have even touched that dirt).
It's back to the drawing board for a better solution. This sign (painted in ASCP Olive) will quite likely be going on the market soon.
Maybe I'll write that country-western song after all...

I feel your pain girl! Although about shower times...not sure which is worse my daughter stays in so long that she empties the hot water tank!!!
ReplyDeleteThis was too funny!!! It truly must be a boy thing, my son does the same thing EVERY SINGLE DAY!! And it has gotten worse as he gets older, lately, he hides the dirty clothes behind his bed! I can't offer any advice, because I am pulling my hair at this one. As for the shower, yup, that too, I'm always feeling his head after he gets out, just to make sure he wet it. BOYS!!!
ReplyDeleteOh geez, I thought I was the only one that had to check my sons head after the shower! Usually he is in there FOREVER! You would think he would wash his hair, but no the Legos are way more important!
