Have you watched One Night With the King?
It is one of my favorite movies.
It is based on the book of Esther in the Bible. Esther was a young Israelite girl living in Persia who had been raised by her cousin. At that time, the Isralites were enjoying a time of freedom and prosperity in a foreign land after years of captivity by the Babylonians. Through a series of unlikely events, Esther finds herself as Queen! But she hides the fact that she is an Israelite. As is not uncommon today, her marriage eventually takes a turn for the worse and she and her husband have not spoken for an entire month. She is unable to go and make amends with him because you must actually be summoned by the king in order to speak with him or you risk death if he chooses not to accept your visit.
The kings right hand man has becomes enraged with the Jewish people and convinces the king to kill all of the Jews on a certain day. Esther's cousin begs Esther to go and ask the king to spare the lives of the Jewish people. Afterall, his very own queen is a Jew and he has unknowingly condemned her to death. Esther states that she could die if she visits the king unsummoned. However, her wise cousin reminds her of her unusual status when he says: "For who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this."
The story goes on but you should watch the movie (or better yet read the Bible) to find out the ending.
But it is the phrase "for such a time as this" that can become a focal point in our lives today. Why were we born when we were born? Why are you where you are? We may not know, but God knows and he has a purpose for each one of us.
Perhaps you are here for some such time as "this". (Whatever your 'this" is.)
Anyway, that was a long explanation to get to the point of this post.
I have been asked to do the decorating for a women's retreat in which the theme is "For Such A Time As This". So, after pondering the situation for a while, I came up with a decor focus on simply "time".
And what better way than with clocks.
So, I found some clock faces online and decoupaged them to old CDs...
I'll be using these clock faces all over the church along with a few real clocks thrown in. But for now, I'm just having fun learning how to use Mod Podge since I've never done it before.
I found some of these free downloadable images over at White Life and others at the Graphics Fairy in case you are interested in downloading them.
I went one step further and edited the images putting the theme Bible verse on the face:
I have a few other plans for these up my sleeve. More to come on "time" in the coming weeks.
(update: - These also make great coasters. See my tutorial here.)
Hope you have a great "time" this weekend.
